The South African Journal for Cultural History (SAJCH):  Please note that for a period of three years, from 1987 to 1989, the South African Journal of Cultural History was combined with the South African Journal of Art History. The combined series started again in 1987 with volume number 1(1), which explains why the first volume numbers are repeated. After the separation in 1990, the numbering of the new series was continued.

Die Tydskrif vir Volkekunde en Volkstaal (TVV): The Genootskap vir Afrikaanse Volkskunde (Society for Afrikaans language and folklore), was established on 22 June 1943 in Johannesburg.  The need for research on Afrikaans folk culture, its study and preservation, was recognised by Dr Abel Coetzee, then director of the Bureau for Language and Folklore Research at the University of Witwatersrand.  The Society’s aim was the overall advancement of knowledge concerning the Afrikaans folk heritage through dialogue, research, and publications.  The first issue of the Society’s journal in which this fieldwork and research was published, the Tydskrif vir Volkekunde en Volkstaal (TVV), appeared in August 1944.  The journal appeared uninterrupted for 60 years, with the final issue in June 2003. (Please note that the following two documents are in Afrikaans only.)
